narrated ibn 'umar (radi-allahu 'anhu):

the prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "whoever keeps a (pet) dog which is neither a watch dog nor a hunting dog, will get a daily deduction
of two qirat from his good deeds."
