the prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, encourages alleviation of hardship:

the prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said explaining the nature of this religion: “religion is easy, and no one overburdens himself in his religion but he will be unable to continue in that way. so do not be extremists, but try to be near perfection and receive the good tidings…”[1]

ibn ‘abbaas, may allaah be pleased with them, said, it was said to the prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: “o messenger of allaah, which religion is most beloved to allaah? he said: “al-haneefiyyah as-samhah (easy monotheism).”[2]

he, peace and blessings be upon him, said to mu‘aath ibn jabal and abu moosa al-ash‘ari when he sent them to the yemen: “be easy going and not harsh, give glad tidings and do not put people off.”[3]

it was narrated that ‘urwah al-fuqaimi, may allaah be pleased with him, said: “while we are waiting for the prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he went out to us and the water was trickling from his head due to performing ablution or taking bath. then he performed prayer. when he finished prayer, people began to ask him: o messenger of allaah, is there any blame on us due to such and such? he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “o people, religion of allaah the almighty is easy, religion of allaah the almighty is easy and religion of allaah the almighty is easy.”[4]

‘aaishah, may allaah be pleased with her, said concerning his description: “the prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was never given the choice between two things but he would choose the easier of the two, so long as it was not a sin; if it was a sin he would be the furthest of the people from it. by allaah, he never took revenge (over anybody) for his own sake but (he did) only when allaah's legal bindings were outraged in which case he would take revenge for allaah's sake.”[5]

he, peace and blessings be upon him, also said: “the best of your religion is that which is easiest, the best of your religion is that which is easiest.”[6]

he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “allaah the almighty liked for this nation easy and hated hardship for it.”[7]

‘aaishah, may allaah be pleased with her, narrated that the messenger of allaah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “allaah did not send me to make things hard for people in the hope that they would make mistakes, rather he sent me to teach and make things easy.”[8]
